Welcome back to the Wasteland! The Wasteland 3 is the next installment of MGP’s successful Wasteland event series. The Wasteland is an alternate reality event based on the FallOut computer games. The setting is an area around the ruins of Washington DC, two hundred years after a devastating nuclear war.
The FallOut world is not quite our own. It is an alternate reality that diverged from ours at some point after the second World War. The base concept for the setting is the World of Tomorrow as imagined in the Golden Age of Science Fiction. This means that before the Great War, the FallOut world was more or less what the people of the 1940s and 1950s thought things would be like in 2077. The most important event in the FallOut setting was the Great War which happened on October 23, 2077.
Our game continues in the Capitol Wasteland of 2282. The Capital Wastes were abuzz with news that the dreaded Slavers of Paradise Falls had been crushed by a force from the West. The joy was short-lived, however when the true nature of The Legion was revealed. Originating from the deserts of the south-west, the Legion is a cruel, highly militarized slaver society based on the old Roman Empire. Other tribes and communities are forced to join the Legion and its way or life, or be destroyed and enslaved. The Legion’s westward expansion was halted at the Colorado River by the New California Republic. The God Mars spoke to Caesar in a dream and said that his path to domination would be assured if he could capture the seat of the Old American Republic and prove his right to rule. Caesar has assembled a sizable army, marching them for months across the ruined and hostile countryside, to seize the Capital Wasteland.
The self-proclaimed saviors of America, the Enclave, have mobilized their forces to deal with this direct threat to the old Capital region. Wastelanders and communities of survivors scramble to arm themselves as these two armies prepare to battle over the Capital Wastes while the Regulators and Reilly’s Rangers try to maintain order and protect those too weak to help themselves. Talon Company and groups of raiders watch the gathering clouds of war with an appreciative eye for contracts and loot. Supermutants hungrily watch the growing supply of human flesh for their gore-bags.

Travelog: Winchester Historic Firearms Museum

Sorry I've been away for a while. Besides being really busy with DarkThreadsy stuff, I was away on a business trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. However, I did find some time to indulge in a personal interest. I went to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA, which also happens to be home to the largest collection of Winchester rifles on the west coast.

Oliver Winchester started the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in 1857, famous for the Henry Repeating Rifle, known as "the gun that won the west."

The Winchester Historic Firearms Museum displays many historical firearms, including several that are hundreds of years old, and the famous limited edition Winchester rifles.

Next comes the flintlock...well you get the idea. My father actually built one of these himself. Shoutout to my blackpowder reenactor friends! Fun times!

Another thing I learned is that Winchester made pistols, also on display in the museum.

Of course, I also took a tour of the "mystery house" - built by Sarah Winchester, widow of William Winchester and heiress to the Winchester fortune. The house truly is a mystery, with 160 rooms, miles of labyrinthine hallways, secret passageways, and inexplicably placed doors and windows. It is said that Mrs. Winchester never got over the untimely deaths of her child and her husband, and having $20 million (=unlimited budget) and lots of time on her hands, what else is a girl to do?

It was well worth the ticket price (which obviously goes to the maintenance of the property), and I would definitely visit again, if I'm in the neighborhood.

Based on one of Woolrich’s most popular traditional jackets, the Dorrington, the Elite Discreet Carry Twill Jacket has a number of tactical features built in.

Large, reinforced inner pockets feature integrated holster loops to accommodate concealed carry handguns with up to a 6″ barrel. A unique double angle on the inner pocket provides ready access to gear, but prevents the pocket from flaring open and exposing the contents.

The rear locker loop conceals the entrance to a hidden accessory tunnel, which allows for convenient yet discreet carry of plastic restraints as well as providing routing for electronic wires.

Watching: Dual Survival on Discovery

This series has been really interesting, offering two different perspectives on survival skills in different situations. In each episode, the hosts of the show - Cody Lundin and David Canterbury - find themselves in the midst of a survival scenario, in a different climate, different terrain, and different resources available. They each have different skill sets that compliment one another: Lundin's expertise is in primitive skills, Canterbury is an army trained scout and hunter.

I've read Lundin's best selling books on survival: 98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive and When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need to Survive When Disaster Strikes. Both were very down-to-earth, no-nonsense guides to surviving situations that anyone could very well find themselves in (i.e. hurrican Katrina).

Canterbury has also published a book that I will have to check out: The Pathfinder System: A Common Man's Survival Guide - another no-nonsense guide to survival skills.

One thing that I particularly like about Dual Survival is how in each episode, they demonstrate a different technique for starting a fire (some methods look a lot easier than others). In the last episode (Out of Africa), they actually made fire with a hand drill - probably the hardest way, but the only tool they had for that scenario was a machete, so that's what they had to work with. You can't know too many ways to start a fire...and you also can't know too many ways to sanitize water.

The dynamic between Lundin and Canterbury is also interesting. They often work as a team to figure out how to deal with each situation, but they sometimes disagree, which makes the show more realistic, especially since we are talking about life or death situations.

I recommend checking out the tv series or picking up any of these books as an introduction to basic survival.

Players will be organized in 5-6 man teams. Pick who you are representing and pick your uniforms. We ask that all team members wear the same uniform. Consult the MGP forums to see who's coming and what uniforms are already being worn. While one team wearing a uniform doesn't preclude another from wearing the same, we'd like to try to have some sort of visual distinction. (ie. Multicam w/ mulitcam gear vs. Multicam w/ black gear)

The event includes team on team combat, working to achieve specific mission goals as well as a series of timed and scored tactical exercises.

The day will be organized into five main areas. Each team will have time to set up , get some pointers and practice with UAL staff and than compete. You will be Timed and scored on Hits and Kills, after each round , you will have time to go through and see for your self how you did. Each team will have there own color and will be able to see the hits and kills. The 5 events will be the fallowing ;

1. Pistol Comp
2. CQB / CQC Comp.
3. Hostage Rescue
4. Security Detail
5. Team VS Team - CTF (mulitple team v. team rounds)

Each event will be held simultaneously in different parts of the building to minimize down-time. Your teams will each have there own staging place to set up and reload for the next Competition. You will get extra point's for your team's load out at the start of the day.

You will need to have at least one hand gun per-team as the pistol competion runs each team member through solo. Ideally everyone has their own handgun and is familiar with it, but it can be shared and passed to other team members if someone doesn't have a sidearm. The rest of the time you will be fighting as a team and demonstrating why you are THE DEADLIEST WARRIORS...

On 26 April 1986 at 01:23am, reactor number four at the Chernobyl plant, near Pripyat in the Ukrainian SSR, exploded. Further explosions and the resulting fire sent a plume of highly radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area. Four hundred times more fallout was released than had been by the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

The Zone of Alienation was established soon after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, in order to evacuate the local population and to prevent people from entering the heavily contaminated territory. The area adjoining the site of the disaster was divided into 4 concentric zones, amongst them the fourth (actually the nearest, within a radius of 30 km/19 mi) being the most dangerous.

In the years following the Chernobyl accident, the Soviet Union established a series of highly classified, experimental research stations within The Zone. This provided the Soviet and later the Ukranian military valuable experience protecting personnel operating within a highly contaminated landscape. For the scientists, The Zone provided a vast area of utter seclusion for advanced, theoretical research far from prying eyes. No one knows what triggered the second incident, but the results were far more startling.

On April 13, 2006, 04:13 a.m., the area around Chernobyl was lit by a blinding light, painting the area with a red glow – and sending out a rolling, roaring emission of noise and energy that ended all communication with the research stations. The Ukranian government ordered an immediate quarantine of the area, the military shooting any violators on sight. 24/7 patrols of the perimeter became necessary. Something had changed inside The Zone.. something that had to do with the fundamental structure of time-space itself. Strange entities were reported by patrols, things that could not be accounted for simply by the effects of radiation on animal and human DNA. Pockets were discovered where physics behaved in strange and dangerous ways. These “anomalies” as they were called seemed to spawn strange artifacts. Items of unknown origin, with powers inexplicable to science and barely understood.

The Zone is a unique airsoft experience drawn from the STALKER videogame series, and loosely on the Russian film of the same name. Set in the contaminated wastelands of the Chernobyl Zone of Alienation, Ukrainian troops, paramilitary factions and lone stalkers fight to control or reveal the secrets of The Zone. Some follow orders of the government, with little knowledge or understanding of what they are guarding, others seek fortune through scavenging scraps of classified technology and strange, unearthly artifacts. The Zone is a grim and deadly place, full of radioactive pockets, unexplained anomalies, mutated horrors and ruthless killers. But it is said that within a man can find treasure beyond his wildest dreams…

The Republic of San Marcos was small but important part of America's containment of Latin American communist expansion through-out the Cold War. The actions of the military of San Marcos and its secret police force often raised global outrage in their suppression of Cuban backed insurgents, but the US remained a staunch ally and financial supporter in its efforts to stave off the "domino effect" through Latin America in the 70s and 80s.

In the decades since the end of the Cold War, the Republic of San Marcos has largely fallen into insignificance. With the end of Soviet and Cuban support, the insurgency largely faded away. Tourism picked up for the beaches of San Marcos and the government eased many of its internal policies, needing new sources of revenue as American financial and military assistance dropped away. All things considered, life in San Marcos has been reasonably good for some time and the youngest generation has enjoyed growing up without knowing of war.

That is until 2008, when President Ferdinand Madrazo elected to office. Madrazo begin slowly tightening the grip of the military and rebuilding his internal security forces. Taxation of the tourism industry and trade threatened to choke off many private businesses and slowed foreign investment. The new tax revenue flooded into government coffers and private accounts of Madrazo and his cabinet.

By 2010, the country was back in the throes of armed insurgency. The old generation of leftist radicals found fertile ground for revolution in their children and grandchildren. The insurgency was fed by funding and weapons arriving from Cuba and Venezuela. The US has reluctantly send teams of military advisors into San Marcos at the request of Madrazo. A political embarrassment, the US hopes to change Madrazo's policies in time while preventing Cuba and Venezuela from destabilizing the region and causing the conflict to spread.

The ATU story continues as the Anti-Terrorism Unit tracks down the Russian Syndicate which smuggled chemical weapons into the US for sale to the Crimson Jihad. Working with local law enforcement personnel, ATU's pursuit of the Russian Syndicate uncovers a grim conspiracy and a secret army funded by crimelords and a cabal of wealthy European industrialists.

TRU XTREME Combat Shirt and Vest

In designing the TRU XTREME line, the designers considered the issue of department dress code. The combat shirts are great for wearing under a vest or plate carrier, but when you take the vest off, you are considered "out of uniform." That's why they designed a separate vest to layer on top of the combat shirt, essentially making it look like a complete TRU shirt. Check it out:

SHOT Show: Warrior Appreciation Night

It was our great honor and privilege to be able to rub elbows with some extraordinary people last week at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas, NV. For example, we met and spoke with Jon R. Cavaiani - retired United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in the Vietnam War.

He was one of several celebrity guests at an industry networking party hosted by AIS, and I got such a warm and gracious feeling from him that I won't forget the experience.

And, we had a nice long chat with one of the actors who appeared in the AMC TV series, "The Walking Dead," and who is also a shooting sports enthusiast.

We met so many other interesting people, and I'm terrible with names, but let's just say that it was a pleasure meeting and chatting with folks from our industry and those who serve our country.

Our third TacOps event will be held again at the CSENTRI tactical training facility in Orlando, Florida. This event will be held in the south annex, a 80,000 square foot CQB complex of rooms, halls and stairs. Future TacOps events, classes and competitions will utilize other areas and assets at the CSENTRI facility as well as other locations in Florida.

This first TacOps event is STRICTLY limited to 50 players and advance registration is requried. We must submit attendee names to site security prior to the event.

Standard MGP/FA rules are in effect. A full face-mask, shemagh or sports mouth-guard is STRONGLY encouraged for this event due to CQB layout and potential of accidental engagements within bang-out range. Force dynamics will be shifted with every mission based on the type of scenario. We just ask that you wear a "complete" uniform in one of the following patterns to be clearly recognized and sign up during registration with your intended uniform so we can anticipate the basic team structures.

Tactical lights and pistols are strongly recommended as they will be used in some specific missions.

26 years ago during the height of The Cold War, MGM released a film set on an alternate time line that depicted the invasion of the United States by communist forces...........

May 1984: An unusually cold and long winter has caused widespread famine in Russia.......... The Green Party gains control of the West German
government, and demands that the U.S. pull all nukes and troops out of the country - NATO dissolves............ Emboldened and encouraged by the U.S.S.R, Cuba and Nicaragua plunge Central America in to revolution, which spreads to Mexico.

September 1984: Soviet Forces cross the Bering Strait in to Alaska and storm through Canada, right to America's farming heartland. Cuban and Nicaraguan forces invade from the south across the Rio Grande in to Texas. America is cut in two, with Communist forces occupying from The Rockies to The Mississippi. Europe, still weary from the first two World Wars, remains neutral. The United Kingdom is committed to the liberation of Canada before assisting the U.S. America stands alone.............

October 1984: Calumet City, Colorado sits on the eastern edge of the Rockies and is a Communist outpost (Sector 8). The town is under martial law and is home to a "re-education" camp that houses political prisoners. A
local resistance, mostly made up of teenagers, calls itself the "Wolverines," after the high school sports mascot. The Wolverines conduct a guerrilla war against the occupiers with hit and run attacks. Their success and increasing numbers have demoralized the Cuban forces. Soviet Spetsnaz are called in to eliminate the Wolverine threat. The U.S. Army sends a Special Forces Team to train and equip the Wolverines, and also engage the Spetznaz. The Wolverines liberate the Re-Education Camp, and gain control of the town. The SF Team then withdraws with the liberated prisoners for medical attention and debriefing. Wolverine Guerrillas are left in control of Calumet City. There ends Red Dawn I.

Red Dawn II
November 1985: Canada has been liberated and allied forces are now in the U.S. pushing the Central American Forces southeast from the west coast. Calumet City is secured by the Wolverines but kept peaceful by it's Police Department which answers to the new, warlord like commander of the
Wolverines - whose camp is outside but close to town. These Wolverines are not the same partisans who liberated the town. Some members have gone back to civilian life in Calumet and others have been KIA securing the town. It's ranks have been filled with Cuban defectors, Allied deserters and survivors of other guerrilla factions. Very few have ties to Calumet City. Residents are noticing a stronger Wolverine presence in the city. Grateful for their protection, but resentful of their "us first" attitude when it comes to resources, residents begin complaining to Police of trading one occupier for another. With their hands tied, the police attempt to act as a buffer between the residents and the Wolverines, hoping for the war to end soon enough to end the unrest. Events spiral out of control. A resident is executed by the Wolverines for "treason" (denying access to his food stores). Residents frustrated by police inaction in turn beat a Wolverine caught alone half to death. The Wolverine commander then orders the Police Dept to arrest the residents responsible and turn them over. The Police Chief refuses and asks for U.S. Army assistance. The unrest does
not go unnoticed by Cuban Forces who have good intelligence on Calumet City. Retaking it would give them a valuable defensive position against U.K. and Canadian forces pushing across the Rockies. The U.S. Army knows this also and sends back the same SF Team that trained and assisted the Wolverines one year ago, hoping they can defuse the situation and keep things calm until the arrival of allied forces.

Wolverines - Any green based BDU, civilian attire or a combination thereof.
Special Forces Team is NWOA, no spots are open. BDU pattern yet to be determined.

Police Department is TF 150, no spots are open. Black/Blue based BDU's

Calumet City Residents: Civilian attire only, No military clothing or hats, (except boots) no vests, LBE or drop leg holsters. All pouches and holsters must be on a belt. All long guns must be on a sling. Shoulder holsters are allowed. Basically your chest and back (camelbacks and civilian back packs are okay) must be visible and you should be able to use both hands freely. If you think it might get you mistaken for a green or tan member, DON'T WEAR IT! Put civilian next to your name when signing up on the green side.

The Wasteland 2 event was fun. The weather was beautiful (even if it was a little chilly) and perfect for airsoft. The Wayne's World field is awesome and presents a wide variety of different terrain to play on, and once again, Fallout 3 proved to be a very interesting theme to play with. I heard lots of good things from players, and I see us doing this again, so there is probably a Wasteland 3 in our future.

Listen children... I want you all to be extra careful out there... Word has it that a lot of travellers have been disappearing off the roads and good honest folk being carried out in the night by heavily armed raiders. Word is... a particularly unsavory bunch of cannibals have taken up residence in the central Wasteland. As if the Slavers out of Paradise Falls aren't bad enough... this bunch of raiders has apparently developed a taste for the OTHER white meat and established new hunting grounds. Be careful on the roads and watch yourselves when visiting unfamiliar settlements. We don't know yet where these cannibals are operating out of... but let's just hope that sooner or later they try to eat the wrong Wastelander and someone out there is able to wipe those flesh-eaters off the map.

Speaking of food... need to remind everyone that the good folks at Wayne's World purchase lunch supplies based on event headcount, which is driven by pre-registration. More than once the Waynes World staff has been surprised by a LOT of extra shooters at their door. All are welcome of course... but sometimes a lot of scrambling is needed along with extra trips to the Super-Duper Mart for extra supplies. To be fair to all those good people who pre-register and let us know we're coming, they'll be getting meal tickets for lunch onsite... and two additional drawings will be held for all pre-registrants by midnight, October 31st, for a $25 gift certificate to Hooters as well as complimentary access to the next MGP event.

Registration closes late Wednesday night, November 3rd. If you haven't pre-registered to let us know you're coming... we can't put you in the head-count for lunch.

And remember kids... be nice to our merchants. The good folks at Airsoft Extreme, Airsoft Unlimited and Dark Threads are helping to keep GNR and the voice of the Wasteland going. And be good to those merchants out trying to make an honest living in the Wasteland. Be sure to bring them some pre-war relics from home and they'll buy most of them off you for some bottlecaps. And remember that they don't like being robbed. I imagine any wastelander or raider feeling a little cocky and robbing a merchant for caps and merchandise is going to end up with quite a bounty on their heads.

Another great outerwear option for the season is this new softshell jacket from Tru-Spec.

It has everything you want in a softshell - it's sleek and hi-tech looking, water-resistant, and has pockets where you need them. It is also designed to fit both men and women (I don't know how they pulled that off, but it does look as flattering on me as it does on D.I., and D.I. looks incredibly cool in it, too, not to mention that it's comfortable.)

Just for fun, we did a little test with it and held the sleeve under a running tap. The water beaded and rolled off, and the fabric didn't even feel the least bit damp. This will keep the weather off you without any bulk to drag you down. Highly recommended.

Hello Children! Welcome back to Galaxy News Radio... with your host... Three-Dog!

Well we've all been hearing a lot of talk about the Republic of Dave. From what I hear, an increasing Deathclaw infestation out of Old Olney uprooted Dave from his old homestead and this self-proclaimed head-of-state is looking for new followers and a new place to call... well... I guess call the Republic of Dave. All I know is that the central Capital Wastes are a pretty dangerous spot and I hope Dave has some serious fire-power to back him up or I think the Republic of Dave is going to see more armies storming back and forth across it than Poland.

I know a lot of us have been getting worried about those Slavers out of Paradise Falls. But the Three-Dog is here to help shed a little light on that gloom and doom. The Regulators have upped their presence in the Central Wastelands and I hear that they are establishing an outpost out of the MDPL-11 Power Plant. Believe they have a couple merchants that have set up shop down there as well so it looks like the long arm of the Law in the Wasteland is helping to do its part to bring some stability to our lives.

Little public service announcement people... in order to help the Wasteland Census and make sure there is ample food and missions for everybody... I can't stress just how important it is to pre-register. And that just doesn't mean posting on a forum that you and those mangy shooters you call your posse are coming... but actually pre-register online and pay for your admission. Lunch counts, staffing and mission planning is all driven by pre-registration. It'll save you some pre-war money... but it's an important courtesy for both Waynes World and MGP... your gracious hosts of this little apocalyptic blight we call the Capital Wastes.

In the meantime... get to repairing your wasteland outfits and armor... make sure those weapons are working and be sure to look around your own personal homestead for any pre-war relics you can't live without... but that you think our wasteland merchants may want to buy from you.

Hello Children! It's Three-Dog coming at ya out of the depths of the Capital Wasteland on Galaxy News Radio!

I've got a public service announcement for those of you out travelling in the Capital Wastes. Eulogy Jones and his band of Slavers and ne'er-do-wells have been seen ranging as far south as the Fairfax Ruins. Pretty bold considering the reports of a Super Mutants in the ruins... but word on the street is that the Slavers are making a play to extend their reach outside of Paradise Falls. That doesn't look good for any of us.

I know there are some unscrupulous types out there in the Wastelands that don't mind a little bad karma... trying to make deals with the Slavers or even working for them. Word of advice... you'd better think twice about cutting deals with Eulogy Jones. The Slavers see the world as made up of two types of people... Slavers and Slaves. And if you ain't one of them... that doesn't leave a whole lot to chose from. They're likely to turn on you at the drop of Eulogy's purple velvet hat... so watch out!

I've been hearing that after the Brotherhood of Steel opened up Vault 109 a while back that some sort of church has set up camp in the vault. Calling themselves the Church of She or some other such nonsense. Say they welcome travellers and provide them safe haven... but take it from Three-Dog.. ain't too many selfless people living in the Capital Wastes... at least not too many that make it more than a week or two on their own. You're welcome to see what the Church is all about... but I'd keep my eyes open and my gun loaded.
