Its all fun and games until someone loses an eye

Eyewear ended up being a big seller at our last event, so I'm going to take that to mean that players are getting more serious about safety and eye protection in airsoft. We actually sold out of several different styles of our eyewear and had to restock after the event, so I just updated the Dark Threads Web store and added a few new product listings. Feel free to check out what we have. Some styles can be fitted with prescription lenses, and if you don't see what you want, please just ping me or DeathIdol and we'll get it in for you.

Many games now require full-seal eye protection. That means that those cheap plastic shooters that came with your airsoft gun are not going to cut it (and besides that, they're your EYES for cryin' out loud). You'll need goggles or a full face mask to play, but what's that you say? You don't like the fogging? Not to fear! We have field-tested all of the products we carry, and experienced minimal to no fogging. We wouldn't sell it if it wasn't something we use ourselves.

I should also prolly mention that many of our products are designed for and used by military and law enforcement. I even sent a pair of WileyX goggles to a friend currently stationed in Iraq, because I want him to come back with his peepers (and everything else), intact.

Camelbak is here!

At the Diamond Dogs event at Camp Blanding in Florida, we rolled out a couple new products from Camelbak, thinking that hydration might be a good idea in that climate, and I finally just added those products to our Web store on the Survival tab. We've got the Camelbak 24 oz. Better Bottle, and the elixir tablets in stock now, and we will be getting in a wide selection of hydration backpacks, reserviors, parts, and accessories, because if we learned anything from playing in Florida, its that you can't carry too much water!


I also added the Camelbak Hi-Tec Impact II CT tactical glove. I didn't know that Camelbak also made gloves, but if they are anything like their hydration products, they must be awesome. These gloves fit very snugly, and they are heavily padded yet very flexible.

Remember that registration/chrono opens Friday at 1300 and runs until 2100 Friday night. Check in Friday if you can to save time on game day! Registration reopens Saturday morning at 0700 and morning formation and briefing is at 0900. Plan your arrival, registration and prep times accordingly!

1) The UN team's mission in Lago was a success. A cease fire has been negotiated between General Jackson's forces and the Private Military Contractors under the employ of Deep Core Mining, De Beers, Stark Industries and Sierra Rutile. General Jackson has agreed to turn over the Lago hospital to UN forces for use as an International Red Cross relief station. Supplies are being loaded onto a UN convoy and peacekeeping forces will escort the convoy into Lago and complete the handover of the hospital from General Jackson NLT 1000hrs, 23 May.

2) A US intelligence asset within the city reports that the contractors occupy the north-eastern side of Lago while Jackson's forces occupy the south-west. A narrow demilitarized strip has been established through the center of town and both forces have pulled back intot their respective sectors.

3) General Jackson has notified the UN Mission that he is ready to discuss terms of a cease fire and said that he hopes that offering the Lago hospital to the IRC will be first gesture of reconcilation. SRC ground commander, Chad Boone, has warned the UN Mission that his scouts have seen more of Jackson's mercenary forces entering Lago under cover of darkness. He insists Jackson is not to be trusted and cynically offered to "...bail the UN out of trouble if it all goes to hell. We'll send the General Secretary the bill..."

4) Following the handover of the Lago hospital, Peacekeeping forces will man the demilitarized zone in Lago while the diplomatic team continues negotiations for General Jackson's withdrawal to Liberia. Peacekeeping forces are reminded of reports of severe human rights violations and should be alert to confirm any evidence of torture and war crimes that may become a factor in negotiations.

1) Just before dawn this morning, private military contractors of Strategic Resource Consultants and other PMCs hired by Deep Core Mining and several other corporations bypassed UN checkpoints and launched a surprise attack on General Jackson's encampment in Lago.

2) The battle raged for most of the day but reports indicate the action slowed to sporadic exchanges of weapons fire by late afternoon. Scout elements report that the military contractors attacked Lago from the north and currently occupy the northeast section of the city. Jackson's force, were caught off guard and have been pushed to the southwest section of Lago. Citizens fleeing to UN lines have said some townspeople and a group of missionaries remain in Lago, despite the battle. The US has a HUMINT asset inside the city who will continue to feed reports to AFRICOM via Langley.

3) A UN mission has been dispatched to the city to seek a ceasefire between the Warlord and the corporate military contractors. Lago is home to the largest hospital in the region and the International Red Cross needs this facility as a base for relief operations in the area. All US and French forces are to stand by at high alert should the UN cease-fire efforts be unsuccessful.

1) Fighting erupted late last night near the Sierra Leone and Liberian border. Military contractors from Strategic Resource Consultants engaged a convoy carrying food and amunition from Liberia, along General Jackson's main supply route, toward his encampment in Lago. The convoy was destroyed. 12 Liberian conscripts and two mercenary sergeants were found dead. SRC reportedly suffered 2 KIAs and 3 personnel wounded. A liaison officer between Deep Core Mining and the US forces in Sierra Leone insisted that the SRC personnel were engaged first.

2) General Jackson's army, based near Lago, has been on high alert since the convoy attack. Sporadic gunfire has been reported along his perimeter defenses. Peacekeeping forces have identified contractors from SRC and Fenris Group conducting patrols within the UN restricted zone. The contractors left the area when challenged. Deep Core continues pressure on the UN for permission to send SRC contractors to protect its small diamond mining facility on the outskirts of Lago. The Security Council maintains that no unauthorized personnel are to approach Lago while it continues efforts to conclude the crisis without further bloodshed.

3) Fleeing civilians have brought unconfirmed reports of mass executions and torture of Sierra Leone citizens resisting or refusing to coperate with General Jackson. The Liberian general has restricted world media from entering Lago and to date these reports of torture and executions remain unconfirmed. The confirmation of possible war crimes is now a Priority Intelligence Requirment of the UN.

4) The Secretary-General remains focused on a diplomatic solution. US forces in the region are ordered to maintain the cease-fire zone and prevent military contractors from re-igniting the situation. Although US forces and corporate military contractors fought together last month at the action near Moyamba Mines, unit commanders are to remind their troops that a UN cease fire is in effect and these contractors have no authority to start their own wars on company orders.
