Bug-out bag essentials: knives

In the August 2012 issue of Knives Illustrated, there's a good article on "Blades for the Bug-Out Bag." Recommendations for a comfortable pocket-carry knife include Columbia River Knife & Tool, specifically the M-16 series, designed by Kit Carson. We totally agree - there is a number of different sizes and features to choose from in the M-16 line, and very affordable pricing. We have several of these knives in stock and ready to ship!

Another CRKT knife highlighted in this article is the SPEW (small pocket everyday Wharncliffe), designed by Alan Folts. This small fixed-blade knife has a surprisingly tactical feel to it, and it's also in stock.

The article also lists other types of items you should keep in a bug-out bag or 72-hour bag, along with lots of useful tips about preparing for emergencies. Wiley X: Talon changeable eyewear system

While we're on the subject of cool sunglasses for summer, I would also highly recommend this one:

The Wiley X Talon is a changeable eyewear system, meaning that you can swap out the lens for a different color, and it is also compatible with the Rx lens carrier (sold separately). This is a great pair of shooters that EXCEEDS MILITARY’S STRINGENT MIL-PRF-31013 BALLISTIC STANDARD and MEETS ANSI Z87.1-2003 HIGH VELOCITY SAFETY STANDARD. The nose bridge and temples adjust for a good fit.

As always, shipping is FREE on this item, and it's available now in our store!

Gear Spotting: Gargoyles Classic

Stefan and I just watched this movie again (The Terminator, 1984):

An iconic movie for its time, and those iconic sunglasses that Arnold is wearing are none other than the Gargoyles Classic. Yes, they've been around that long, and they are still as cool as ever.
They also happen to be shatter-resistant ballistic defense lenses, making them great for shooting, cycling, law enforcement, military, and other applications. Summer is just about here, so be sure you have a great pair of shades like these.

The lenses come in black ice (shown), clear, blue, and grey, and they are available now in our store.

We also have the 85s - a slightly smaller version of the Classic (85% the size of the orginal), designed to fit smaller faces.

As always, we offer FREE shipping on eyewear. Would you like to know more? Please contact sales@darkthreads.com.

Gearing up for Origins Game Fair

It's close to that time again when we will be heading to Columbus, OH to help MindGame Productions put on the best show at Origins Game Fair: US Marine Space Corps (USMSC) Interplanetary - an airsoft LARP event. This is a welcome break for us from the daily grind, and has a surprising amount of overlap with what we do at DarkThreads. It's all about the gear.

So, what does a marine in the USMSC wear, anyway?

TRU-SPEC® Tactical Response Uniform Shirt, Digital Urban
Tactical Response Uniform (TRU) Pants, Digital Urban
TRU Combat Shirt, Digital Urban/Black
Seriously, though, this pattern is also worn by many other real-life LE and military units. Other important parts of the uniform include: protective eyewear, for which we have an abundant selection. You also need a vest or plate carrier, in black, either of these will do, and all the appropriate pouches. Contact sales@darkthreads.com for more info and help on getting your USMSC loadout together.
